According to the Japan Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law "(referred to DENAN), each

of the specified
product safety standards (including testing methods and design specifications) is

determined
by the Government. Therefore, it has also led to the safety standards in some cases

difficult to respond quickly to new technologies and new products. In addition, with the increase

in foreign-made products, the Japanese safety standards with international standards coordination

becomes increasingly important.

With this in mind, the end of February 2013, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

(METI) Products Safety Division submitted a notification to the WTO Secretariat informed DENAN

under electrical supplies technical standards departmental order amendment. The purpose of this

amendment is to the Japanese technical standards with international standards coordination.

The amendment is intended to be adopted on 15 April 2013, and on October 15, 2013.

A comprehensive revision of the provisions of electrical supplies technical standards departmental

order
, including:

to clarify the concept of "safety principles;

• Use common standards, such as canceling the detailed safety standards, provides a common

required level of safety;

• Safety standards with international standards of global coordination.
